Long Weekends

Posted: May 19, 2012 in Uncategorized

So, I’m having a tough time allocating time to our class project….plans keep changing, work gets in the way, and now it’s the long weekend.  I don’t even have an industry in mind yet….

The bonus is that basically any company who’s anyone is experimenting with and/or currently utilizing social media.  My background is the financial industry and I used to deal with a number of marketing professionals thoughout a number of the major banks, but I think it’d be fun to explore an industry I’m not as familiar with.

It’d be easy to analyze my current industry, it’s not heavily used and my company is definitely the most aggressive….especially as I’m putting a ton of effort into it right now.  It will be exciting to see the results of my efforts, but it’s exciting being a part of it from the ground up.

Deeper into the industry, a number of our customer are very active, but as a supplier there aren’t too many others as active.  Our biggest competitor started their social media campaign in 2009 and in 1 month I am 10 follows away from surpassing thier number of followers….and with only 50% of the posts….

A lot of my strategy has been in the number of people/companies I am following.  We have also already had a positive feedback comment come in; nothing is better than a free testimonial as part of your marketing/PR campaign.

Anyway, hopefully in my next post I will have some news about how my assignment is coming.  This long weekend is definitely ensuring I procrastinate on this….I just hope by Tuesday I have everything ready….

Enjoy your weekend,

Brent

I’m Too Social

Posted: May 14, 2012 in Uncategorized

In our first class I didn’t have the opportunity to introduce myself, my reason for taking the class, and what I was hoping to take a way from the program so I thought I’d use my first blog entry to do so.

I recently started a new position with a company called The WHITING Group of Canada; a holdings company that includes 6 companies/brands.  We specialize in roll-up doors for the transportation industry, extruded aluminum roll-up doors for emergency vehicles, and LED lighting.  I was hired approx. 6 weeks ago as thier marketing coordinator and am very excited about the projects I am currently working on.

We recently launched our social media program, QR Code integration, and we are in the process of revamping our website and integrating e-commerce functionality.  Once that is complete we will be revamping our print media, doing video integration, e-newsletters, and promote future acquisitions….so a lot going on.

The main reason I took this program was to increase my functionality when it comes to utilizing social media as a productive sales tool as well as how to tie in those form of media within our website to diversify our content.  I have already implemented the social media program/promotion and am already seeing a lot of progress.
